Perimeter Rapid Ride: How it Works and What You’re Paying For

What is Rapid Ride?

Rapid Ride is the new, flexible solution for your commute into Perimeter. Powered by the Perimeter Community Improvement Districts (PCIDs) and Commute With Enterprise, Rapid Ride connects groups of 5-8 commuters in close proximity to share the ride in a comfortable, insured vehicle. If you’ve ever heard of vanpool, this is its modern form. Rapid Ride is made possible with funding from the Perimeter CIDs. The Atlanta Transit Link Authority (ATL) also supports commuters in this regional vanpool program, assisting with formation and offsetting some of the fees.

Riders pay a $75 monthly fee to receive access to the vehicle, gas for all trips, maintenance, and insurance. If your schedule changes, you’ll be able to directly contact other riders in your group to find a solution. Not only do you save time and money on getting gas or maintaining your car, you get extra time while riding to relax, read, or chat with other riders.

The affordable, flexible way to get to Perimeter

Removing the stress of a daily commute on you and your car can make a big difference. You’ll buy less gas, pay for less maintenance, and spend less time worrying about traffic jams or parking at work.

Each Rapid Ride vehicle gets Express Lane access on every commute, and riders coordinate to find pickup and drop-off points, departure times, and ride schedules that work for them. With a ride schedule and pickup points set to your preference, you can rely on stable commute times — and maybe even shorten them with Express Lane access.

With Rapid Ride, you’ll only drive if you want to: drivers will be decided by each vanpool group and can switch off as often as they like. Drivers are always verified through the Enterprise app, so you can be sure you’re safe, no matter which rider is behind the wheel. Unlike a bus or train, you can also update the route based on riders’ needs, like if someone’s work address or pickup point changes.

Get going on a commute that works for you

The first step is simple: just fill out our interest form with your home and work address, plus the times you’ll need to commute. Then, we’ll match you with other commuters going the same way to form your route! You’re welcome to encourage coworkers or friends to fill it out, too—if their home is near yours, it could help start your route even sooner.

Once you’ve got your group, Enterprise will provide a vehicle to fit your route’s number of riders, along with insurance, gas, and an easy contact platform to plan your pickup, dropoff, and commuting times. Enterprise’s app allows Rapid Ride groups to communicate without having to exchange contact info — and once you hit the road, it provides directions for the driver.

Each rider will rent access to the vehicle on a monthly basis, so there’s no long-term lease. If you need to cancel your membership for any reason, all you’ll need to do is give 30 days’ notice. Enterprise also offers 24/7 roadside assistance in case of car problems — just ask for help through the app or call 800 VAN 4 WORK to get repairs going, plus a replacement vehicle until your original one is fixed.

Does anyone else have a program like Rapid Ride?

Vanpool programs have been helping commuters get to work for years: large employers like NASA and other Metro areas, including Seattle and King County, have offered vanpool programs to great success. In fact, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory employees have been sharing their ride since 1990.

While the method is tried and true, Perimeter’s Rapid Ride offering is unique in its flat-rate, low-cost fare for commuters and its flexibility. The support from the ATL and PCIDs helps more employees save on commuting each month, and Enterprise’s established network makes it easy to get started, get paired with other riders, and get to work each day. Whether you head to Perimeter daily or just a few times a week, Rapid Ride can help you commute better. Find the route for you at perimeterconnects.com/perimeter-rapid-ride.
